West King Edward

Conceived in the spring of 2025 and brought to life in the summer of 2025, this landscape project is located in the Dunbar neighbourhood of Vancouver and was built for the landscape design team at Calumma Creative Landscapes.

This project features a calm, garden focused backyard designed for everyday living. A custom cedar deck anchors the space, creating a warm transition from the home into the landscape. Natural stone walkways wind through layered planting, connecting key areas of the yard with a soft, organic flow. Accent boulders add scale and grounding, while a sunken hot tub, outdoor barbecue, fire pit, and custom sauna complete the space for year round enjoyment.

Maintaining the existing artificial turf during construction was a key priority and required careful protection. Excavation for the hot tub vault revealed two buried 4,000 lb boulders, which required crane coordination and were later repurposed to enhance the natural character of the landscape. Homeowner driven upgrades added complexity, all of which were managed carefully to maintain design integrity, efficiency, and overall project quality.

Despite the evolving scope, the project was delivered with precision and care. Existing elements were preserved, technical challenges were resolved efficiently, and design upgrades were seamlessly integrated to create a cohesive backyard built for year round enjoyment.
